Volunteering

Teens

Students ages 14 to 19 may participate in the Harrison Museum volunteer program as docents, office assistants or camp assistants. Interested persons should have an interest in African American art, history and culture. The program is designed to enhance the cultural exposure and educational enrichment of participants. Applications are available all year-long. All participants must attend assigned workshops or classes scheduled throughout the year. For more information or to register for an interview call the Museum at (540) 345 - 4818.

DOCENTS

The volunteers who present our Museum to the public are called Tour Guides or Docents. These volunteer staff positions facilitate week-end or evening tours at the Museum. Docents must attend at least one workshop a year. These workshops are designed to keep staff, volunteers and the public aware and informed of the changing exhibitions and permanent collection of the Museum.

STAFF VOLUNTEERS

The Harrison Museum could not function if it were not for the assistance of our volunteers. Many of our staffing needs could not be met without the aid of these persons. These persons may come and assist the museum on a weekly or monthly basis.

OTHER COMMITTEES

Volunteer committees enable the museum to plan events and activities. The Exhibit, Fundraising, and Education Committees function in an advisory capacity. Each group assists the museum staff and Board of Directors in the planning and implementing of critical programming in collaboration with other resources in the community.

Persons interested in volunteering at the Harrison Museum of African American Culture should contact the museum at 540-345-4818.

INTERNS

The Harrison Museum of African American Culture welcomes those persons interested in serving as an intern.  Contact the museum at (540) 345-4818 for more information.
